Sister City Partnership with Gooik (Belgium)

Altenberge and Gooik have been sister cities since Whitsuntide 1979.

The Flemish community of Gooik lies in the southwest of the "Vlaams-Brabant" province, 25 km southwest of Brüssels.

The town is comprised of Kester, Oetingen, Gooik, Leerbeek and Strijland and has a population of 8,800. Flemish is spoken in this rural community.

The town administration members and partnership committees meet regularly; in addition clubs and associations (the Music School, the Youth Orchestra, youth associations, the Carriage Club and Riding Club) visit their counterparts. Additional exchanges with the Vintage Cars Club and the "Heimatverein" are in the planning.
